S8 Running Hot??
Went for a Bank Holiday drive today which at some point had to involve slow traffic.
Whilst in slow traffic the temp needle would slowly rise and at one point was at the 120 red line. Once under way again the temp soon dropped back to 90 and would stay there.
Should the fan have kicked in before then or is this normal?

Fan should have kicked in. Check it out quickly. It is possible to get a new fan, but the fan comes complete with a shroud, and audi have these riveted rather than screwed/bolted together, so you normally have to buy the entire unit.
also check your oil level, I had something similar happen to mine a few years back, and she overheated

Should be about 100 I think.
Also check your viscous fan.. it may be a bit tired and won't help matters either.

Mine runs rock solid at 90 unless standing for a very long time.
Sounds like you have a problem there Mick.
Get it checked sooner rather than later. I don't think the V8 likes that much heat.

Re: S8 Running Hot??
It's official I'm an idiot.
Had a look under the bonnet today and found a rag wrapped around the auxillary fan.
After removing it the fan still doesnt operate.
Does the fan have a fuse as the only one I can see in the manual is a 5 amp for the fan relay.
Otherwise it looks like I may have blown the fan motor or hopefuly the relay.
